Rovers on a winning run, was disappointed to see it end!
Train and tram – train was fine although disrupted due to strikes.
Town centre pubs, very friendly, no trouble.
Fish & Chips near the ground – poor quality.
Useless – insufficient bar space, ram out of most things by half-time including beer.
Good although roof support pole restricts the view at times.
Away end noisy, poor home support.
7/10.
Hopeless and too busy. Tram fine going but abysmal returning – packed tram, no additional services and stuck in traffic most of the way back. Took an hour plus on return.
£80, which is fair value.
Not particularly.
First game of the season in a new era for Southampton FC.
We drove up. Traffic was busy going into Sheffield on match day but that’s to be expected with so many people trying to get to one place.
We stayed in the town centre which is about 3 miles to the stadium. There is a tram that goes from the town centre straight to the stadium and you have a 5 minute walk to the turnstiles.
We went to a few around the town centre, the locals were friendly and loved a bit of banter.
The away end was ok, the queues for the food and bars were very busy. It was nice to go to a stadium that sold a normal beer and not Chang or Kingfisher.
The away end atmosphere was fantastic as per normal away days, the home fans only came alive when they scored their goal.
10/10.
Very easy.
It worked out about £250 with fuel, hotel, tram, food and drink along with the ticket.
Yes, definitely.
A blockbuster game between two title favourites in League One.
I drove up, it wasn’t to bad from Essex, We took the A120, M11 – A14 and onto the A1M all the way to Sheffield, took around 3.5 hours.
Parking in Sheffield is tough. We found a rooftop carpark behind a shopping centre but this was about £10 for the afternoon so fairly expensive. The area also wasn’t great so be careful about not using a designated car park.
Had a bottle of coke no food as the queues were too long, the away end didn’t have enough counters to accommodate a full away end.
The away end is very clean and provided a fantastic view of the pitch giving us great perspective on the game.
The atmosphere from us was great. It became hostile towards the officials towards the end which I felt swayed the game.
4/10 – 4.5 – I thought it was ok but leaving the Game my friend was grabbed for no reason by a Sheffield fan and threaten, He was quickly removed by police – My mate did nothing to provoke this attack.
It was very tough given there is only one staircase to allow every away fan out and the area is a little disorientating as you can exit the same way you enter, and it mixes with home fans.
Around £50-70 including fuel.
I would, as Hillsborough is a legacy ground and a great place to watch football. However, it was a shame about the home fans behaviour which also included throwing items at the linesman and the Ipswich Goalkeeper.
