It was my first ever away day and I wanted to do a big one. Old Trafford is one of the most well known stadiums in the world so we thought it would be perfect.
We went on the supporters coach and it was very easy. In the morning, it was on the coach at 6:15 am and then arrived at a perfect time for the match.
Fantastic view of the pitch and stadium. When we first saw the Stretford End and Sir Alex Stand, we were amazed by the size of them and how impressive it was, especially compared to St Mary’s.
The atmosphere in the away end was fantastic but the home fans were very disappointing. It is hard to comprehend how 75,000 fans of one of the largest teams in the world, could be so quiet. The atmosphere probably was good in the away end as we did not lose as well.
Did not interact with the Manchester United fans too much. After the game, a couple of fans from the top of the East Stand wanted some banter.
We waited a bit for the area to clear, then it was just out of the ground, to the east car park to the coaches. Very easy.
Because we bought coach travel, it was quite expensive with tickets for an under-16 and adult with travel coming to £109 without food but We had a great time so it was value for money in my opinion.
Definitely, it is great to go to see one of the largest and most recognisable stadiums in the world and great to see the saints do well.
We chose to go to this game as it was a big cup match, and before the cup tie we wanted Manchester United away. On top of that , Old Trafford is a must visit stadium for football fans.
We travelled by car and avoided traffic as we left early in the morning.
We stayed at a hotel at the Trafford Centre, and there was tram service which led directly to the stadium, which was a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The Tram ride was a short 15 minutes to the ground, however when leaving the stadium the tram is incredibly cramped.
Perfect view, unobstructed, so it was great overall.
I am not saying us Reading fans were loud, but you could not hear United fans for most of the game. Most of them were leaving 70 minutes into the game.
7/10
It was short tram ride back to the hotel, however it was incredibly cramped .
Around 200 pounds. This includes petrol, food, hotel, tram tickets and tickets for the football. So I would say a good value for money.
Yes, I would, definitely.
I took my 13 year old son to this match as a birthday present. We are Newcastle supporters and always go to at least a couple of away games each season. We were looking forward to the game as my son had never been to Old Trafford before and we felt we had a genuine chance of actually getting a decent result for a change!
The game was a 5.30pm kick off on a Saturday so we drove down to Manchester during the early afternoon. The journey down was fairly straightforward and took just under three hours.
On arrival near the ground, we found the Matchstick Men pub, which had match day parking for £5, payable to a car park steward. This was ideal as it was only a 15 minute walk to the ground.
Prior to entering the ground we bought food from one of the many mobile catering vans situated around the ground. I normally avoid these places like the plague as I’m not a fan of greasy, over cooked and over priced food, but I have to say, the food was quite decent. Two giant sausage sandwiches and two portions of chips came to £12 and was good value for money.
I never buy food from inside football stadiums because the prices are ridiculously high and the quality is usually ridiculously low.
The away end is in the far right corner of the ground and holds approximately 3,000 fans. The view of the pitch was excellent.
The atmosphere in the away end was fantastic!! Newcastle are always well supported at home and away and the fact we were 2-0 up inside ten minutes made it even more enjoyable. I thought the support from the home fans was literally none existent until they scored their first goal on 70 minutes.
6/10
It was straightforward getting away from the stadium after the match, even though the attendance was over 74,000. We left the ground about 5 minutes after the final whistle and were back at the car within 20 minutes.
Including fuel, I spent approximately £100 on the trip. The tickets were priced at £30 for adults and £10 for under 16’s. Good value in my opinion.
I would certainly recommend this away day to any travelling supporter. Old Trafford is a fantastic stadium.
First time at Old Trafford! Very expectant as Wolves are playing good football and aren’t scared of anyone.
By car. Less than 2 hour drive, despite the ongoing roadworks on the M6. Left early, 9.30am for a 3pm kick-off.
We tried to park on the MacMillan car park on Sir Alex Ferguson Way (found it on the internet) as proceeds go to MacMillan. This was a nightmare as the end of the road has been blocked off permanently, but the satnav didn’t know this. Ended up parking at Chorley Street, which is a 5 minute walk from the away end, perfect. Easy to get away from at the end as well.
Had a 1/4 cheeseburger from a chargrill van. Burger was good, but the onions were barely cooked. But reasonable at £4.80. Inside the ground, had a steak pie, Yorkie and drink (coke, decanted into a plastic cup) for £8. The pie was good.
Good selection of pies, snacks, etc. Reasonably priced.
View was fantastic. No restrictions at all.
The Wolves fans were great as usual, virtually start to finish chanting. The Man U fans were not good. How can 72000 be so quiet. Some small pockets, but not good, even at 1-0 up.
9/10 – Had a good chat with an old fella before the game, and on the way out lots of compliments from the home fans.
Very easy, usual traffic jams, but nothing extreme.
£62.50 for the tickets, about £20 on fuel, £10 on parking, £20 on food. Only complaint, £5 for a programme that has £3.50 on the cover, because I got a “free” Man United supporters magazine. Didn’t notice until too late. Would have been nice to be asked.
Yes, largely depends on the result I know, but we had a great day out.
