A nice weekend away in store at a club I knew little about.
I drove to the game. Very easy from Essex but quite long. 4.5 hours door to door. Had an overnight stay beforehand.
I would advise the John Lewis car park in town. It’s a 6-7 minute walk straight down one road will bring you to St. James’s Park. Other parking options are available but this is cheap and easy.
It was an early game so there were no pubs open beforehand.
The food wasn’t bad before the game in a small clubhouse where fans intermingled. On entering the ground we were provided free tea/coffee vouchers which was a first in League One.
We had a great view of the pitch and were literally a few feet from the pitch so action was right up close.
Exeter provided great atmosphere for us visiting the ground. They made a lot of noise and the stadium just filled up.
10/10 – I sat and had a pint with a group of Exeter lads before the game in my Ipswich colours. There was no animosity at all and even after the game walking back to the car parks together absolutely no trouble at all.
Exiting the car park, the town centre had a few queues but this was to be expected of a Saturday at midday.
I spent around £300 for this day including fuel, food, tickets. I was very happy with this trip.
100%. It’s a lovely ground, lovely fans and a wonderful little club.
